Modern twists for rustic kitchens

There are plenty of ways to make a rustic kitchen fit with a contemporary home. And these include:

  • The colour of the cabinets- while neutral or white colours are typical of a rustic kitchen, why not think darker instead? Charcoal cabinets can fit perfectly with the hardwood worktops and add a contemporary edge to your kitchen. This is also true for deep blues and greens.
  • The type of tiles- traditionally, patterned tiles have been very effective for splashbacks and feature walls in a rustic kitchen. So simple swapping out the floral patterns for shiny subway tiles, or square tiles, can be a good way to make your kitchen feel more contemporary. Why not use a contrasting grout colour to really make your tiles stand out?
  • Your worksurfaces- hardwood worksurfaces are often used in rustic kitchens. But these are not necessarily practical. Why not swap out your hard wood worktop for something a little more contemporary. While Corian or other solid surfaces would’t necessarily match, a stone worktop, or a quart worktop could bring a your kitchen a contemporary touch.
  • Use metal- From your door handles and cabinet handles, or even your kitchen sink metal finishes can look very impressive in a rustic kitchen.
