When it comes to designing your new kitchen, small kitchen spaces can often be overlooked. But they deserve just as much love as larger spaces. Especially when they can be just as practical, and appealing, as larger kitchens. One of the most common layouts for a smaller kitchen is the galley kitchen. And this is suitable for a range of spaces. But how can you plan and design an effective galley kitchen in a small space? Well, here at Homematas, we are Preston’s leading kitchen design experts. As a result, we have produced this guide full of ideas for small galley kitchens.
A double galley
With units running down each side of the kitchen, the double galley is really successful in both narrow rectangular rooms, and rooms that are almost square. Because of the two sets of units running down each side, you can also plan the “golden triangle” which is the space between the sink, the fridge, and the oven. The three most frequently used points of a kitchen.
And this is also a layout used in large open plan kitchens, where the long kitchen island forms the second set of cupboards.
Sleek and light
A contemporary design can really suit a galley kitchen. This is because of the glossy cabinets and light feel that can really help your kitchen feel larger than it really is. Handle-less cupboards can also increase the perceived space, because they are not protruding into the walkway area.
Traditional too
However, traditional kitchens can also be used effectively to create a galley kitchen. And this can create a charming and quaint effect. Just keep the cupboards very light, and use reflective tiles to help make the space brighter and lighter.
Colour options
If your space is very narrow, you might want to think about only using white cupboards, worktops and walls. This is because the white colour will reflect the light, whereas a dark colour can make the galley kitchen feel narrow and dingy. If white isn’t your thing, you could opt for a very pale blue or green or a light beige or cream.
