When it comes to your kitchen, getting the layout just right can be a challenge. But it is also one of the most important decisions you will make. This is because the layout effects the practicality of the space, and its usability. So you need to make an informed decision. Here at Homematas, we are home renovation experts specializing in kitchens and bathrooms. As a result we have produced this guide to popular kitchen layouts.

#1 The Horseshoe Kitchen Layout

For square kitchens, the horseshoe layout is perfect. In this kitchen layout design the cabinets line three of the walls. This makes it an incredibly practical and easy to use kitchen, as everything is accessible from the center.

For large kitchens, a horseshoe layout is the ideal candidate for a square island in the centre, around which everything can be accessed. However, be aware that using an island automatically provides an obstacle that will need to be navigated. Positioning of the island and the oven will be very important.

#2 The Galley Kitchen Layout

This is similar to the horseshoe layout, except instead of lining the cupboards around the edges of a square room, the room itself is rectangular. Generally speaking a galley kitchen is long and narrow, and sometimes may be called a corridor kitchen.

The galley layout is very practical as all of your cupboards are in easy reach, with no awkward places.

For small or large kitchens, the galley kitchen makes for a great layout. If you have a larger kitchen, that is wide enough to accommodate it, again you may think about adding a central island. In a galley kitchen, the island tends to match the shape of the room and also be rectangular.
